How to shrink AVI videos (Take Windows version for example)
If you are using a Mac, please turn to AVI Video Compressor for Mac. The following tutorial is suitable for both Windows and Mac users.
1Import the AVI files
After running the program, you can click the Import button to load your target files. Another simple way to import files is to directly drag them from your hard drive to the program. When the target files appear in the User’s Album, you can go to the next step.
2Slim down AVI video
Next, drag the target video from the User's Album to the Timeline panel. You can change its file size in any of the following three ways:
1> By shortening video length
Cutting the unwanted sections is the simplest way to reduce file size. If there are such parts, you can then move the playback indicator to the beginning and ending of the unwanted segment respectively and click the Split button at these two spots. In order to cut the video precisely, you can play it through the built-in player and pause at the exact points. Then click the Split button.
2> By converting video format
If you don't mind to convert the video format, you can then click Create and then hit the Format tab to choose a high compressed video format like FLV, WMV, etc. These formats are widely used for web transmission, for they can compress videos to small sizes while retaining excellent picture quality.
3> By adjusting parameters
If you prefer not to change the video format, you can also make the file size smaller by downgrading the output video parameters like frame rate, resolution etc. To do this, you can hit either Device or Format tabs then click the arrow beside Advanced Settings to put in your needed presets.
Note: Bear in mind that converting video to a format with high compression rate or lowering video parameters will decrease the video quality to some extent.
3Export the final result
