What's Digital 8?
Digital 8 (shorted D8) is a kind of camera standard developed by Sony. It adopts 8mm metal magnetic tape and meanwhile is compatible with Hi8 and V8. So Digital 8 has more adaptivity and flexibility.
You may have dozen of Digital 8 tapes and would like to convert to DVD for playback as video files on your DVD player or just collection. To convert digital 8 video files to DVD, you need to capture digital 8 tapes to computer firstly and then burn digital 8 video to DVD. Please follow the step-by-step tutorial to transfer digital 8 tapes to DVD Disc.
What we need:
Video capture card or TV card: Pinnaclesys or Canopus.
Blank discs: DVD+RW, DVD-RW or DVD-RAW, DVD+RAW
Disc Burner: A rewritable DVD-ROM

Part 1. Capture digital 8 video to computer
1. Install video capture card in PCI of your PC then reboot your PC and complete the rest steps following instructions of pop-up windows
2. Install capture software. Most video capture cards have a built-in capture device. Install recommended software as much as possible.
3. Connect your camcorder and open camcorder
4. Run capture software
5. Click Start to record your video and select what video format you want to save.
6. A while, your digital 8 tapes will be transferred to computer as digital video.
Part 2. Burn DVD from Digital 8 tapes
1 Load Digital 8 files to DVD Creator
Free Download DVD Creator, install and run it.
Click "Import" or File on menu bar to load these digital 8 tapes video files to the software(Multiple Digital 8 video files can be added each time).
2 DVD menu making
Click "Menu Template" to customize your DVD menu. There are up to 10 different free styles of built-in templates, frames and buttons for your choice. To apply a template, frame or button, you can just double click it. You can even add text, background music and background image to customize the DVD menu.
Previewing Digital 8 Movie
Just for make sure everything goes as your plan you could have a video preview before burning it to DVD.
3 Convert Digital 8 to DVD Disc
Once you have previewed your video and nothing wrong about it, you can go to set TV Standard (PAL/NTSC) on "Setting" option, output Aspect Ratio (4:3/16:9) on "DVD setting bar" and output Video Quality "Low video quality, High video quality and Highest video quality". the highest video quality option is best for high DVD Video quality, even though it will take longer authoring time and occupy more capacity of DVD disc.
And then Click "Burn" and select your DVD drive (if you have more than one DVD drive on Computer) and hit "Start" to convert and burn Digital 8 tapes to DVD Disc, DVD Folder or ISO Files.
That it, with DVD Creator, you can transfer Digital 8 Video tapes to DVD with only 3 steps. Now, just enjoy watching your own made Digital 8 movie on your DVD player or TV with large screen or backup!

I used Digital 8 tapes with a Sony Handycam. Later I converted them to DVDs on a JVC dvd writer. Now I''m trying to edit the DVD but Win 7 does not recognize it at all. under properties: 0 bytes used, I checked and I have windows set to see all files including hidden. I have 3 different video editing programs and non will recognize it. Any suggestion would be appreciated
